Start with a bed sheet. Make patch squares and sew into strips; hem the strips on the long sides and applique to the sheet. You can use patchwork strips on the sides of the sheet at the bottom, adding enough weight to make it drape properly. For my Heaven’s Door cover, I plan to use linen scraps to make 3-4″ strips for the side bottoms and the bottom of the sheet.
For the top of the cover, use more patches where you get cold; leave more of the blank sheet where you get hot (in my case, my chest). You can use smaller applique squares to get this effect. Add ribbons at the top for smoothness.
