I’ve been working on some cushion covers for my kitchen chairs since moving to Utah. “Mauna Ulu” is about a hike I took in Volcanoes Park on the Island of Hawaii, in November, 2012, after my mother died. The flows of Mauna Ulu occurred from 1969 to 1974. “Haiku Stairs” is about an unlawful hike into the sky – one I haven’t taken. I still enjoy sewing, my first skill, acquired at age six.
